Jones, Dickey Named to MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List

CHAPEL HILL - Seniors Rachel Jones and Claudia Dickey were each named to the 2021 Women's Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy Watch List, an award given out to the top women's soccer student-athlete in the country.
A total of 59 student-athletes were named to the watch list, including the pair of Tar Heels. Atlanta Coast Conference members Florida State, Virginia, and Clemson each had representatives.
Rachel Jones
Junior Year (2020-21): Third Team All-America • First Team All-ACC Selection • ACC Academic Honor Roll • All-ACC Academic Team • Academic All-District Honoree • UNC Top 10 Scholar-Athlete Started all 20 games of the season • scored six goals on 50 shots • earned her first brace of her career against Wake Forest in the season-opener on Sept. 17 • scored against Clemson and Louisville, as well as in the ACC Championship against Florida State • recorded four assists, ranking ninth in the ACC and 23rd nationally to end the fall season • assisted on a goal in the season-opener against Wake Forest • recorded assists against Syracuse, Boston College, and Virginia • finished the season 3-3 on penalty kick attempts • awarded Top Drawer Player of the Week on September 22 • scored only goal of the spring season against Columbus State • recorded an assist against Tennessee and on the Tar Heels' lone goal of the NCAA College Cup against Santa Clara • took six shots against Denver, her season-high.
Claudia Dickey
Junior Year (2020-21): First Team All-ACC Selection • competed for all 90 minutes in each of the 20 games in the split season • allowed just nine goals • made 48 saves recorded a save percentage of 0.813 • accumulated a season record of 18-2 • ranked first nationally for shutouts, recording 15 • ranked 12th in the NCAA for goals against average, with an average of 0.450 • pitched solo shutouts against Virginia Tech, Duke, Clemson and Syracuse, consecutively, and against Duke and Virginia Tech, again, Notre Dame and Virginia later in the fall season • Allowed just three goals in the NCAA tournament, all against Santa Clara in the NCAA College Cup • Pitched three shutouts in the NCAA tournament against Denver, Washington, and Texas A&M • logged 1,800 minutes • ACC All-Tournament team for the second year in a row.
