Men's Soccer Ranked No. 4 In Preseason Coaches Poll

CHAPEL HILL—The University of North Carolina men's soccer team will begin its 2021 season ranked No. 4 nationally, the United Soccer Coaches announced on Wednesday with the release of their preseason poll.
The Tar Heels, who went 9-5-4, advanced to the NCAA College Cup semifinals and finished the season ranked No. 4 in 2020, will begin the 2021 season in the same spot in the rankings.
Defending NCAA champion Marshall received 22 of 24 first-place votes and is No. 1 in the 2021 preseason poll. Indiana is No. 2, followed by No. 3 Pittsburgh, No. 4 UNC and No. 5 Georgetown.
The rest of the top 10 includes No. 6 Clemson, No. 7 Wake Forest, No. 8 Stanford, No. 9 Washington and No. 10 Seton Hall. The only other Atlantic Coast Conference team in the preseason rankings is No. 15 Virginia Tech.
The Tar Heels return nine of 11 starters from their 2020 squad, which finished second in the ACC Coastal Division behind Pitt.
Carolina will begin its 2021 preseason with an August 15 home date against top-ranked Marshall. The UNC regular season will begin on August 26 against Bucknell.
