Meet The Diamond Heels: Shaddon Peavyhouse
January 26, 2022 | Baseball
As the start of the 2022 season looms in mid-February, GoHeels.com will be sitting down with each of the 16 newcomers that comprised one of the nation's top recruiting classes in a feature series called "Meet the Tar Heels."
Â
Taking the mound to start the series is right-handed pitcher Shaddon Peavyhouse, who spent the previous four years at Coastal Carolina. A native of Erwin, Tenn., Peavyhouse attended Unicoi County High School where he was a three-sport athlete, playing football and basketball in addition to baseball. He earned all-state honors on the diamond and was tabbed one of the top prospects in the state by Baseball America.
Â
Last season Peavyhouse pitched in 20 games, making four starts on the mound. He posted a 3-2 record overall with one save and a 3.61 ERA with 49 strikeouts in 47.1 innings of work. He held opposing hitters to a .223 batting average on the year. One of his appearances came against the Tar Heels on April 20, tossing 1.2 innings.
Â
During the pandemic shortened season of 2020, Peavyhouse struck out 10 and didn't issue a walk in 11.0 innings.
Â
His overall career at Coastal Carolina spanned just 33 games due to injury and the pandemic. He averaged 9.6 strikeouts per nine innings with a strikeout-to-walk ratio of better than 2:1 (91:42).
Â
Peavyhouse made the Dean's List each year at Coastal Carolina and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Intelligence and National Security.
