Meet The Diamond Heels: Alberto Osuna
January 27, 2022 | Baseball
As the start of the 2022 season looms in mid-February, GoHeels.com will be sitting down with each of the 16 newcomers that comprised one of the nation's top recruiting classes in a feature series called "Meet the Diamond Heels."
Â
The series continues with the introduction sophomore first baseman/designated hitter Alberto Osuna, the 2021 NJCAA Division I Player-of-the-Year.
Â
After being granted an extra year of eligibility due to COVID-19, Osuna led Walters State Community College to its best record in program history (61-7) and helped the Senators claim conference and district titles en route to a trip to the NJCAA World Series.
Â
Osuna slammed 25 home runs and drove in an astounding 107 runs in 68 games last season, while batting .459. He led the nation in RBIs and finished second in home runs.
Â
He enrolled at Walters State after attending Mauldin High School where he was a two-year letterman and two-time all-region player. Osuna was named to the South Carolina Baseball Coaches Association 5A all-state team as a senior.
Â
He is the youngest of Ramon Osuna and Anna Sachez de Osuna's three children. His brother, Ramon, was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 14th round of the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft out of Walters State.
