Tar Heels Have 17-Shot Lead At Stephens Cup
University of North Carolina sophomore David Ford made eight consecutive birdies en route to a record-tying 10-under-par 62 in the second round of the Jackson T. Stephens Cup Monday at the Seminole Golf Club in Juno Beach, Fla.
Ford tied the UNC record for strokes under par in a round and was one off UNC's 18-hole stroke record. Ryan Gerard shot a 10-under 61 in 2018 at Notre Dame.
The Tar Heels shot 16-under 272 in both of Monday's rounds to post a 17-shot lead over Florida State heading into Tuesday's third and final round of stroke play.
Carolina is 32-under 544. The Seminoles are 15 under par. Stanford is 14 under, Texas and Notre Dame are 13 under, Oklahoma State is 1 over par and Arkansas in 2 over.
Stanford, Texas and Arkansas were unable to finish their second rounds due to darkness. They will complete their second rounds Tuesday morning before the third round begins.
Ford leads the individual standings at 14-under 130 after shooting 68-62. The 62 equals his best competitive round and is his best in a collegiate event as a Tar Heel. The Peachtree Corners, Ga., native previously shot 62 in the second round of the 2022 Southern Amateur in St. Simons Island, Ga., and the third round of the 2020 AJGA Rolex Tournament of Champions in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

He did not make a bogey in the second round and made birdies on holes 3, 5 and 9 to shoot 3-under 33 on the front and 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16 for a 7-under 29 on the back nine.
Ford has a six-shot lead over Arkansas' Julian Perico and a seven-shot advantage over FSU's Brett Roberts.
Ryan Burnett (67-71) is tied for sixth at 6-under 138, Austin Greaser (71-68) and Peter Fountain (68-71) are tied for eighth at 5-under 139 and Dylan Menante (69-72) is tied for 14th at 3-under 141.
