
Burnett, Ford Lead Men's Golf To Rd 1 Lead At Williams Cup

Ryan Burnett and David Ford shot 1-under-par 71s to lead the University of North Carolina to a six-stroke advantage after round one of the Williams Cup presented by STITCH Golf Friday at the Eagle Point Golf Club in Wilmington, N.C.
The third-ranked Tar Heels shot 1-under 287. Louisville is second at 5-over 293, NC State is third at 6 over and Michigan State and UNCW are tied for fourth at 10 over par.
Ford, coming off a four-stroke victory at the Stephens Cup at Seminole Golf Club, was 1 over through six holes then played the final dozen in 2 under, which included birdies on the 13th and 15th holes.
Burnett made three birdies in a four-hole stretch mid-round and bogeyed just two holes during the round, when the average score was 76.85.
Burnett and Ford are tied for third place at 1 under, a stroke behind the 18-hole co-leaders, Jordan Gilkinson of Kent State and Michigan State's Drew Hackett.
Carolina's Peter Fountain was one of three players in the field to birdie the 17th and 18th holes. Fountain finished with an even-par 72.
Dylan Menante shot 1-over 73 and Austin Greaser posted a 77.
Round two of the 54-hole event is Saturday. The tournament is named in honor of former UNC men's basketball coach Roy Williams and his wife, Wanda, for their support of intercollegiate athletics, the University of North Carolina and the Tar Heel men's golf program.
