Volleyball Falls To Florida State In Five

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Carolina volleyball team fell to Florida State in five sets on Sunday afternoon in Carmichael Arena. For the fourth straight match, Mabrey Shaffmaster led the team with a match-best 17 kills, while Kaya Merkler tallied a season-high 13 kills and four blocks.
Liv Mogridge was a force at the net, tallying a career-best three solo blocks, while Maddy May led the match with 15 digs, her tenth match of the season with double-digit digs. Anita Babic ran the offense with 37 assists.
Charley Niego, who also had nine digs and six kills, served three of Carolina's 10 service aces, while May and Parker Austin each had two apiece.
The Seminoles (10-5, 2-2 ACC) outblocked the Tar Heels (9-6, 1-3 ACC) 16-10 and tallied 61 digs to Carolina's 47.
For just the third time this season, the Tar Heels allowed an opponent to hit over .300, with Florida State outhitting Carolina .311 to .143. The Tar Heels also had a season-high 31 attacking errors in the match.
With the victory, the Seminoles now hold a 46-25 advantage in the all-time series.
Up next, the Tar Heels will be on the road for back-to-back matches, first traveling to Wake Forest on Oct. 7, before heading to Blacksburg, Va., to face Virginia Tech on Oct. 9.
