The University of North Carolina men's and women's cross country teams will head north to Virginia for the Atlantic Coast Conference Cross County Championships on Friday, October 28, at the Panorama Farms course in Earlysville, Va.
The Tar Heel men, ranked No. 18 nationally in the latest USTFCCCA poll, will begin their 8K race at 10:40 a.m. on Friday. The eighth-ranked women are ranked higher than they've been rated all season and will begin their 6K race at 11:30 a.m. The ACC Network plans live coverage of both meets, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Flash results will again post live scoring during and at the conclusion of both races and may be accessed at Live Results.
The ACC continues to lead all conferences with a season-high seven teams ranked nationally in the USTFCCCA Men's Coaches Poll. The USTFCCCA men's top-30 poll also features No. 13 Virginia, No. 16 Syracuse, No. 18 North Carolina and No. 29 Duke.
NC State continues to hold the No. 1 position in the USTFCCCA Women's Poll and is joined by No. 6 Notre Dame and No. 8 North Carolina for a nation-leading three ACC teams among the top 10. They are joined by No. 15 Syracuse and No. 25 Virginia to give the ACC five ranked women's teams, tied for second-most among all conferences.
This will mark the 11th time Virginia has played host to the ACC Cross Country Championships and the first since 2014, when the Syracuse men and North Carolina women claimed team titles.
The top 21 men's and women's finishers at the ACC Championships will earn All-ACC recognition. The first true freshman to cross the finish line in the men's and women's races will be recognized as ACC Freshmen of the Year. Carolina earned both Freshman of the Year honors last season with Brynn Brown leading freshmen runners on the women's side (sixth overall) and Parker Wolfe on the men's side (seventh overall).
ACC Runners of the Year and Coaches of the Year will be determined by a vote of the league's head coaches next month following the completion of the NCAA Championships.
