CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of North Carolina women's soccer team has earned the No. 1 seed in the 2022 Atlantic Coast Conference Championship with its 24 points and 8-2 ACC record, which included a victory over regular season co-champion Florida State.
The Tar Heels are on top of the six-team bracket that begins Sunday, Oct. 30 with the quarterfinal round. North Carolina and second-seeded Florida State earned a bye into the semifinals which will be held at Wake Med Soccer Park in Cary on Thursday, Nov. 3.
North Carolina and Florida State each posted 8-2 records, accumulating 24 points, but it was the Tar Heels' 2-1 victory over the Seminoles in Tallahassee earlier this month that earned UNC the No. 1 seed.
It is the 23rd time that the Tar Heels have been the No. 1 seed in the ACC Tournament, winning 19 championships from the top line.
Notre Dame earned the No. 3 seed with its 7-2-1 league record and will play host to sixth-seeded Pitt at 6 p.m. on Sunday. Virginia and Duke closed the regular season with matching 6-2-2 league records, as the Cavaliers earned the No. 4 seed with their win over the Blue Devils on Oct. 2. Virginia will host Duke on Sunday at 8 p.m.
North Carolina will face the winner of the quarterfinal match between Duke and Virginia in the semifinals at Wake Med Soccer Park on Nov. 3 at 5:30 p.m., while the Notre Dame-Pitt winner will face Florida State at 8 p.m.
The first round and semifinals will air live on ACC Network and the final on Sunday, Nov. 6, will be broadcast at noon on ESPNU.
