Volleyball Falls To No. 10 Georgia Tech In Four Sets

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Carolina volleyball team fell to No. 10 Georgia Tech in four sets (26-24, 8-25, 16-25, 20-25) on Friday night in Carmichael Arena.
Mabrey Shaffmaster led the Tar Heel offense with nine kills and nine digs, while Skyy Howard had a season-best seven kills.
Kaya Merkler was a force for the Tar Heels at the net, tallying six blocks, while Maddy May had 11 digs, her sixth-straight match in double-digits. Howard and Liv Mogridge also contributed four blocks.
Carolina (13-9, 5-6 ACC) was held to a season-low .043 hitting percentage, while Georgia Tech (16-4, 9-2 ACC) hit .282. The Yellowjackets out blocked the Tar Heels 12-10 and had 68 digs to Carolina's 45.
Georgia Tech has now won four straight matches against the Tar Heels.
One bright spot on the night was with seven kills in the match, graduate Charley Niego tallied 1,500 career kills between her four years at Notre Dame and this season in Chapel Hill.
Up next, Carolina will host Clemson on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Carmichael Arena.
