Team Pry Rallies To Win Fall World Series

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Team Pry captured the annual UNC Baseball World Series with a 12-6 victory Friday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium.
Team Pry erupted for 11 runs in the final three frames after trailing 3-1 at the end of four innings.
Alberto Osuna hit a go-ahead grand slam as part of an eight-run fifth inning that pushed Team Pry out to a 9-3 lead. Three of the first four batters of the inning reached base before Tomas Frick delivered an RBI single to make it a 3-2 game.
Osuna then smashed his first of two home runs to put Team Pry ahead 6-3. Eric Grintz scored on a fielder's choice and Jackson Van De Brake blasted a 398-foot two-run homer to cap the scoring in the top of the fifth.
Van De Brake went 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, three runs, and three RBIs. Grintz also collected three hits for Team Pry and Osuna drove in five runs.
Hunter Stokely hit a two-run home run in the bottom half of the inning to bring Team Sandy within a grand slam, but Osuna's next blast gave Team Pry a 10-5 advantage.
Team Sandy added a run in the bottom of the sixth and Team Pry answered with two in the top of the seventh.
Vance Honeycutt and Johnny Castagnozzi each hit a solo home run for Team Sandy. Honeycutt was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base, while Castagnozzi, Stokely, and Colby Wilkerson each collected two hits.
Vanderbilt transfer Nelson Berkwich picked up the win in 1.1 innings of relief, while freshman Matthew Matthijs took the loss.
The Tar Heels will wrap up their fall season next week, culminating with a scrimmage against Duke on Friday, Oct. 14.
