Heck Named National Offensive Player of the Week

Freshman Ryleigh Heck has been named the NFHCA National Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season following a standout performance in last week's Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament. Heck, a forward from North Beach, N.J., scored three goals in the Tar Heels' two games.

Against Syracuse in the ACC semifinals on Nov. 2, she scored the Tar Heels' second goal of the day in a 2-1 win. In the title game against Virginia, she scored UNC's second and third goals as Carolina won 3-2 to capture the program's sixth title in a row and 25th overall.

The ACC Freshman of the Year, Heck has 16 goals this season, good for second in the ACC and seventh nationally. She also earned All-ACC and All-ACC Tournament honors.

Heck and the Tar Heels open NCAA Tournament play on Friday, hosting Delaware for a noon game at Karen Shelton Stadium.
