CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Five members of the University of North Carolina women's soccer team have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District honors.
Seniors Julia Dorsey, Aleigh Gambone, and Libby Moore along with junior Avery Patterson as well as sophomore Ruby Grant each earned Academic All-District recognition. It's the first time each of these individuals is receiving this recognition.
To be eligible for Academic All-District and Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve who carries a 3.5 or higher cumulative grade point average and is at least a sophomore.
Dorsey, a media and journalism and political science double major, is a three-time member of the ACC Honor Roll and an ACC All-Academic Team selection. She has played in 17 games this season and averaged 72.4 minutes per game. Dorsey missed the final four games of the regular season due to injury before returning for the ACC Tournament. She is also a member of the Tar Heels' 2022 NCAA championship women's lacrosse team,
Gambone serves as one of the team captains and is also a business administration major. She has played in all 21 matches this season and is averaging over 23 minutes per game. Her lone goal of the season was against Tennessee in the season, the first of 50 goals by UNC players in 2022.
Grant is a psychology major with a history minor. She has played in 14 games this season but missed four games while playing with the England Under-23 women's national team. She scored her lone goal, which proved to be the game-winner, in the regular season finale against Louisville. She is averaging 24 minutes per game. Grant has been named to the ACC Honor Roll each of her first two years at UNC.
Moore is a three-time member of the ACC Honor Roll and was named a Top Ten Scholar-Athlete in 2021-22 for having one of the top five GPAs among female student-athletes at UNC. She is a global studies major with minors in Spanish and neuroscience and is a member of the Sigma Delta Pi Spanish Honor Society. Moore has played in all 21 games and is averaging 43 minutes per match. She scored her lone goal of the season against Virginia Tech.
Patterson is also a global studies major with a concentration in international politics and Latin American studies. She is a two-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll. She was voted second-team all-conference earlier this season and is one of only six players in the conference with double-digit goals scored (11). Patterson has started all 21 games and is one of three Tar Heels with a brace.
All five players on the all-district team advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. The Academic All-America teams will be announced in early December.
