FH Staff Earns South Region Recognition

After coaching UNC to the program's 10th NCAA title to cap the 2022 season, the North Carolina field hockey staff has been named South Region Staff of the Year by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA).

UNC finished the fall with a perfect 21-0 record, winning the program's 25th Atlantic Coast Conference title en route to the NCAA crown.
Â
It marks the 11th time that the Carolina staff has won the South Region honor.
Â
Honorees were selected by a majority vote of their regional colleagues. Other staffs honored were:

Mid-Atlantic Region – Maryland
Mideast Region – Penn State
Northeast Region – Albany
West Region – Northwestern

This Tar Heel staff is now in the running for National Staff of the Year, which UNC won in 2018, 2019 and 2020.

The UNC staff is made up of head coach Karen Shelton, associate head coach Grant Fulton, assistant coach Caitlin Van Sickle, volunteer assistant coach Manuel Garcia Nieto and performance analyst Scott Sherban. Â
