Meet The Diamond Heels: Casey Cook

The 16-part Meet The Diamond Heels series continues with the introduction of Virginia native Casey Cook. He was a four-year letterman for coach Mark Wright at Freedom High School, playing shortstop and pitching.

Recently ranked as the No. 22 recruiting class in the country by DI Baseball, Carolina's crop of newcomers includes 12 freshmen and four transfers. Cook came to UNC ranked as the one of the top 335 players nationally on top of being the No. 9 overall player and No. 3 shortstop in Virginia.

Cook was two-time First Team All-Region 5C selection as well as a 2021 Rawlings-Perfect Game Preseason All-Atlantic Region First Team. He was rated as third-best prospect in Virginia/DC by Prep Baseball Report.

Cook was a multi-sport athlete at Freedom High School, also playing basketball.

Casey is the son of Lori and Jason Cook, who was an infielder at Virginia and was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in 1993. Has an older sister, Jordan, was an Honor Roll student that graduated with a 3.95 GPA.
