Freshman Gymnasts Knower And Dekanoidze Earn EAGL Weekly Honors

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Carolina freshmen gymnasts Julia Knower and Lali Dekanoidze have each earned East Atlantic Gymnast League (EAGL) weekly honors, the league announced on Wednesday.
Dekanoidze was named the EAGL Gymnast of the Week for the fourth time this season, while Knower was tabbed EAGL Rookie of the Week for the second time.
The Tar Heels earned their fifth-straight EAGL victory on Saturday, a 195.600-195.425 win over Temple in Carmichael Arena.
Lali Dekanoidze – EAGL Gymnast of the Week
Scores: 9.875, Bars: 9.95, Beam: 9.875, Floor: 9.85, AA: 39.550
Julia Knower – EAGL Rookie of the Week
Scores: Vault: 9.875, Bars: 9.825, Beam: 9.90, Floor: 9.650, AA: 39.250
Carolina travels up the road to Raleigh for a dual meet with NC State on Saturday. The meet will steam live at 4:00 p.m. on ACCNX.

Scores: 9.875, Bars: 9.95, Beam: 9.875, Floor: 9.85, AA: 39.550
- Set a new career-best in the all-around, earning her third all-around title
- Her all-around performance is the top in the EAGL this season (39.550) and seventh highest of any freshman gymnast in the NCAA
- She a new career-best on bars with a 9.95, one of just two athletes in the EAGL to earn a 9.95 on the event this season. It was also the highest score of the week in the conference on bars
- Currently ranks No. 1 in the all-around and on bars in the conference and No. 3 on vault
Julia Knower – EAGL Rookie of the Week
Scores: Vault: 9.875, Bars: 9.825, Beam: 9.90, Floor: 9.650, AA: 39.250
- Anchored the beam lineup and posted the highest beam score of the week in the EAGL,
- Earned her second straight 9.90 and third 9.90+ of the season on beam
- Opened the meet with a career-best 9.875 on vault
- She currently ranks No. 5 in the all-around in the EAGL
