Meet The Diamond Heels: Joe Jaconski

Freshman Joe Jaconski is featured in the fifth installment of the Meet Diamond Heels series. A native of Plymouth Meeting, Pa., Jaconski was a three-year letterman at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School for coach Chris Manero and primarily played shortstop.

Recently ranked as the No. 22 recruiting class in the country by DI Baseball, Carolina's crop of newcomers includes 12 freshmen and four transfers. Jaconski came to UNC ranked as the one of the top 500 players nationally on top of being the No. 14 overall player and No. 1 shortstop in Pennsylvania.

As a senior, Jaconski hit .464 with eight home runs, 29 RBIs, 35 runs scored, 17 stolen bases and 27 walks in 21 games and was named the Reporter/Times Herald/Montgomery Media 2021 Baseball Player of the Year. He posted a .614 OBP and 1.596 OPS in 88 plate appearances while earning first-team all-league honors for the third time.

Jackonski verbally committed to North Carolina during the fall of his freshman year, when he attended Springside Chestnut Hill Academy

"When I went down (to UNC) I loved it," Jaconski said. "I was down there a couple times before I committed. I've always loved North Carolina and wanted to go there since I was in fourth or fifth grade. Once I heard they were calling, I was all-in from there."

He is the son of Mary Kate and Joseph Jaconski and has a younger brother, Jesse.
