Meet The Diamond Heels: Alex Ritzer

The 16-part Meet The Diamond Heels series introduces Minnesota native Alex Ritzer in the latest edition. Ritzer was a four-year letterman at Stillwater Area High School where he played both shortstop and third base for coach Mike Parker.

Recently ranked as the No. 22 recruiting class in the country by DI Baseball, Carolina's crop of newcomers includes 12 freshmen and four transfers. Ritzer came to UNC ranked as the one of the top 500 players nationally on top of being the No. 6 overall player and No. 1 shortstop in Minnesota.

"Once North Carolina came into the picture, I knew that's where I wanted to be," Ritzer said. "It just felt like home, it was a perfect fit for me. I loved the coaches, it's just a culture that I've really been looking for and I really wanted to be a part of."

As a senior he earned all-state, all-conference, all-metro and all-section honors. Ritzer led SAHS to a third-place finish at the 2019 state high school baseball tournament. He also played football and basketball.

The son of Heather and Kevin Ritzer, Alex has three siblings: Zach, Paige, and Heavin. His cousin, Jared Thomas was a member of Minnesota Duluth's 2018 NCAA Men's Ice Hockey National Championship team.
