Cernoch Named ACC Player Of The Week

GREENSBORO (theACC.com) – North Carolina's Brian Cernoch has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, and NC State's Martins Rocens and Fons Van Sambeek have been named the ACC Doubles Team of the Week.Â
Cernoch beat a top-10 opponent at No. 1 singles for the Tar Heels on Saturday, coming from behind to beat No. 7 Alex Kotzen of Columbia. After dropping the first set, Cernoch dominated Kotzen and won the final two sets, both by scores of 6-3. Cernoch now has one top-10 singles win this season to go along with his two top-10 doubles wins earlier in the year with teammate Mac Kiger.

Martins and Fons went 2-0 in doubles matches against North Carolina A&T and Boston College, helping the Wolfpack secure the doubles point in each match. Against Boston College, the pair earned a 6-1 win over No. 39 Juan Jose Bianchi/Max Motlagh to help lead NC State to a 7-0 victory.
