Three Tar Heel Wrestlers Named To All-ACC Academic Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Three Tar Heels have been named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Wrestling Team, the league announced on Thursday.
Joe Heilmann, Gavin Kane, and Austin O'Connor earned the honor, which takes into account both athletic and academic performance over the past year.
Joe Heilmann is receiving All-ACC Academic honors for the fourth time. He joins Frank Abbondanza and Alex Utley as the only four-time All-ACC Academic recipients in program history. This will be the first time Gavin Kane and Austin O'Connor have received All-ACC Academic recognition.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
