Diamond Heels Open ACC Championship Against Clemson

CHARLOTTE – Eighth-seeded North Carolina (34-19, 15-15 ACC) opens the 2022 ACC Baseball Championship against No. 12 Clemson (35-21, 13-16) on Tuesday, May 24, at 7 p.m.
The game will be televised on Bally Sports and other regional sports networks and streamed on ACC Network Extra. It can also be heard in Chapel Hill on WCHL 97.9 FM or on any mobile device via the Varsity Sports Network app.
PITCHING MATCHUP
Tuesday's matchup is the first of the season between the Diamond Heels and Tigers. The teams last met in Chapel Hill a year ago with Carolina sweeping the three-game series at Boshamer Stadium.
This will be the 30th meeting at the ACC tournament between UNC and CU with the Tigers holding a slim 16-13 series advantage. The Heels have won the last two meetings in the championship event, posting wins in 2013 and 2015.
Both teams are coming off weekend sweeps. Clemson took three from Boston College by a combined score of 26-3 and the Tar Heels swept No. 20 Florida State by a combined score of 28-9, including an 11-0 victory in the series finale.
Carolina has won 11 of its last 13 games, outscoring its opponents by 41 runs during those games while hitting .290 as team. Mac Horvath and Vance Honeycutt have each belted seven home runs and Alberto Osuna has smashed six homers during the stretch with Danny Serretti hitting a crisp .463.
Serretti finished the regular season ninth in the ACC in hitting (.369) and tied for fourth in total hits (79) along with teammate Angel Zarate.
Osuna is tied for fifth in the league with 19 home runs and Honeycutt is ninth with 17, one off the UNC freshman record.
The Tigers are led by 2022 ACC Player-of-the-Year Max Wagner, who the conference in slugging percentage (.867), on-base percentage (.506) and OPS (1.373). He enters this week's ACC Baseball Championship batting .379 with 74 RBI, and he is tied with Georgia Tech catcher Kevin Parada for second nationally in home runs with 26.
The Tigers are averaging 7.7 runs per game and hitting .284 with a .486 slugging percentage and .388 on-base percentage.
Following Tuesday's game, North Carolina, and Clemson each have a game remaining against top-seeded Virginia Tech. The Heels will take on the Hokies Friday, May 27, after the Tigers square off with the Coastal Division champs on Thursday.
