Cernoch Advances In NCAA Singles

CHAMPAIGN, ILL.—University of North Carolina senior Brian Cernoch won his initial match in the NCAA Singles Championship on Monday, advancing into the round of 32.
Cernoch beat No. 35-ranked Alexander Hoogmartens of UCLA by a score of 6-1, 6-1 on Monday afternoon. He advances to meet Jeffrey von der Schulenburg of Virginia on Tuesday at noon. Von der Schulenburg beat Washington's Clement Chidekh, 7-5, 6-3, on Monday.
Cernoch and doubles partner Mac Kiger will begin doubles play in the NCAA Doubles Championship on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. against Finlay Murgett and Tad McClean of Auburn.
