CHAPEL HILL – North Carolina redshirt sophomore pitcher Davis Palermo was tabbed third team All-America by Perfect Game and outfielder Vance Honeycutt was named to the All-America Freshman first team, the organization revealed Wednesday.
Palermo finished 2-2 with a 2.78 ERA in 37 appearances for the Tar Heels this season. The Chapel Hill native allowed just 18 earned runs in 58.1 innings of work, collecting five saves with 74 strikeouts and 24 walks. Additionally, he held opposing hitters to a .189 batting average.
With the award, Palermo becomes the 51st different player in program history to receive All-America distinction. He also is the first Tar Heel to be selected to an All-America team since Aaron Sabato was elected by three publications in 2019.
Honeycutt was named to his third Freshman All-America squad Wednesday after previously being recognized by Collegiate Baseball and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). Honeycutt is the third Tar Heel to be named to Perfect Game's Freshman All-America teams since 2016, joining Sabato and Danny Serretti (2019).
