Thirteen Tar Heels Picked For Senior Nexus Championship

Twelve members of the 2022 UNC field hockey roster as well as a Tar Heel alum have been selected for the Senior Nexus Championship, set for July 17-22 in Virginia Beach, Va.

North Carolina players selected are Kennedy Cliggett, Katie Dixon, Ryleigh Heck, Mia Leonhardt, Erin Matson, Lauren Moyer, Ciana Riccardo, Romea Riccardo, Meredith Sholder, Kelly Smith, Kiersten Thomassey, Kylie Walbert and Paityn Wirth.

Moyer is a UNC grad and a current member of the U.S. National Team. Cliggett, Dixon, Leonhardt, Matson, Ciana and Romea Riccardo, Sholder, Smith, Thomassey and Wirth are all returning letterwinners for the Tar Heels. Heck and Walbert are part of the incoming freshman class.

Formerly known as the Young Women's National Championship, the Senior NXC is held annually and features 144 elite high school, collegiate and post-collegiate athletes.

The event, which kicks off with a team training session on July 17, provides participants with the opportunity to be tapped for the 2022-23 U.S. Women's National Team and Junior USWNT selection camps.
