CHAPEL HILL – University of North Carolina freshman outfielder Vance Honeycutt was named third team All-America by D1Baseball, the organization announced Friday. He is the second member of the Diamond Heels to earn All-America distinction this season, joining fourth-year sophomore Davis Palermo (Perfect Game/third team).
With the award, Honeycutt becomes the 52nd different player in program history to receive All-America distinction. He also is the first Tar Heel freshman to be selected to an All-America team since Aaron Sabato was elected by three publications in 2019.
Honeycutt had previously been named Freshman All-America by Collegiate Baseball, National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and Perfect Game. He also received third team All-ACC honors and was selected to the conference's all-freshman squad.
The Salisbury native finished ninth nationally in home runs with a UNC single season record 25 homers while ranked 23rd in stolen bases (29) and total bases (166). He was one of only three players across Division I to finish the year with at least 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases; first player in school history to record the feat.
Honeycutt posted a final slash line of .296/.409/.672 leading the Heels in home runs, OPS (1.081), RBIs (57), runs (66), stolen bases, total bases, and triples (4). He finished his rookie campaign ranked fourth in the ACC in home runs and second in stolen bases.
