Nine Rowers Named CRCA Scholar-Athletes
June 24, 2022 | Women's Rowing
CHAPEL HILL - Nine members of the North Carolina women's rowing team were named Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Scholar-Athletes, the organization announced Friday.
Recent graduate Alessandra De Vito garnered Scholar-Athlete status for the third time in her career to highlight this year's recipients. The Newton, Mass., native earned her degree in May with concentrations in economics and political science.
Those earning their second career CRCA honors included recent graduate Amanda Perez and rising seniors Jessica Judge, Natalie Timinskas, and Nicole Van Liew.
Four Tar Heels were recognized for the first time in their career – rising juniors Caroline Lammersen, Gigi Maroney, Isabelle McGimsey, and Lauren Walsh.
To meet the criteria for CRCA Scholar-Athlete status, student-athletes must be in their second, third, or fourth year of eligibility, rowed in 75 percent of the team's spring races in an NCAA-eligible boat, and maintained a 3.5 cumulative GPA.
The Tar Heels have had at least four student-athletes recognized for academic success by the CRCA in 13 of the last 16 seasons. This season marks the ninth time since 2007 that seven or more student-athletes earned the award. All eight ACC teams had nine or more student-athletes honored with Duke (13), Syracuse (13), Virginia (12), Louisville (12), Miami (12), Notre Dame (12), Boston College (10), and Clemson (9).
