U.S., Canada Post Wins On Day Two Of The World Games

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The three University of North Carolina products vying for gold at the 2022 World Games in Birmingham, Alabama, once again impressed on the second day of World Lacrosse Sixes competition.Â
It was a battle between two Tar Heels as Sammy Jo Tracy ('17) and rising sophomore Brooklyn Walker-Welch faced one another in the Israel vs. Canada matchup. Fresh off earning silver at the World Lacrosse Women's World Championship last week, Walker-Welch had an assist in Canada's 14-6 win over Israel.Â
Both Israel and Canada continue Group B play on July 14 for the final day of preliminary contests. Canada is set to face Haudenosaunee at 1 p.m. ET while Israel will take on Great Britain at 3 p.m.
Caitlyn Wurzburger led the United States to a 16-10 victory over Japan with a game-high four points from one goal and three assists. The U.S. and the Czech Republic will go head-to-head tomorrow in Group A at 5:30 p.m.
World Lacrosse Sixes is being contested for the first time in the history of The World Games, which was postponed from 2021 due to the pandemic. Sixes, a shorter and faster-paced version of lacrosse, is played on a 70×36-meter outdoor field and involves 8-minute, running-time quarters. All games are played at PNC Field on the campus of the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
The women's tournament takes place July 12-16 and includes 18 games with teams split into two groups for round-robin preliminary play. At the end of the preliminary round, the top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals with medal games being played on the final day of competition.Â
Games are broadcast on the Olympic Channel while the semifinals and medal games will be distributed by the World Games via its 24/7 channel at Olympics.com, as well as select international broadcast partners. CBS Sports Network will air a daily highlights package in the U.S.
