July 21, 2022 | Men's Soccer
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of North Carolina men's soccer program has unveiled its schedule for the fall, which features 16 regular-season contests with 10 of those games played at home on Dorrance Field.
The Tar Heels are set to face six teams that finished in the top 20 of the final United Soccer Coaches poll last year, highlighted by a matchup with defending national champion Clemson. In addition to the Tigers, UNC's opponents include one third round, two second round, one quarterfinal and one semifinal team from the 2021 NCAA Tournament.
The 2022 slate features home Atlantic Coast Conference games against Pitt (Sept. 9), reigning NCAA champion Clemson (Sept. 30), Virginia Tech (Oct. 7) and Virginia (Oct. 28). UNC hits the road to face conference foes Duke (Sept. 16), Notre Dame (Sept. 24), NC State (Oct. 14) and Boston College (Oct. 21).
After a two-year hiatus, the Carolina Nike Classic is set to return with UNC playing Air Force on Aug. 25 and South Florida on Aug. 28 to open the regular season – and a five-game home stretch – at Dorrance Field.
UNC also welcomes FIU (Sept. 3), ETSU (Sept. 13), UNCW (Sept. 20) and VCU (Oct. 11) to Chapel Hill for nonconference games. The Tar Heels travel to Elon (Oct. 4) and William and Mary (Oct. 25).
Prior to the start of the regular season, UNC will host a pair of back-to-back exhibition matches against USC Upstate (Aug. 14) and Mt. Olive (Aug. 15). The team then heads to James Madison on Aug. 19 for the final test of the preseason.
North Carolina produced an 11-7-2 (4-4 ACC) record last season, advancing to the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament and the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Tar Heels had five All-ACC selections and finished fourth in the ACC Coastal Division.
