Eight Tar Heels Named To Field Hockey National Team

Eight Tar Heels, including five who are part of the 2022 UNC roster, have been named to the 2022-23 U.S. Women's National Field Hockey Team, announced on Tuesday.
Incoming freshman Ryleigh Heck is a new addition to the squad and is joined by veteran team members Ashley Hoffman, Erin Matson, Lauren Moyer, Ashley Sessa, Meredith Sholder, Cassie Sumfest and Paityn Wirth on the 38-player roster.
Hoffman, Moyer and Sumfest are UNC graduates. Matson, Sholder and Wirth will be seniors in 2022 and Sessa joins Heck among in the incoming freshman class.
UNC leads all schools in number of players named to the team.
The National Team coaching staff evaluated players at the recent Senior Nexus Championship in Virginia Beach, Va., where Heck was named the Young Player of the Tournament.
