Trio Of Swimmers To Compete In Commonwealth Games

CHAPEL HILL – A trio of Tar Heel swimmers – Lilly Higgs, Olivia Nel and Patrick Hussey – will compete in the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.
The swimming competition is set to begin July 29 and will conclude August 3. Higgs will represent The Bahamas, Hussey is a part of Team Canada and Nel will compete on behalf of South Africa.
Higgs is scheduled to compete in the women's 50 and 200-meter breaststroke as well as the 200-meter IM. Hussey is slated to participate in the men's 200-meter butterfly and is part of the Canadian 4x200 freestyle relay team.
Hussey posted a personal-best time of 2:00.24 in the 200-meter butterfly event at the FINA World Championships earlier this summer.
Nel is schedule to compete in three individual events (50m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 100m backstroke) and two relays (4x100 freestyle, 4x100 medley).
The Commonwealth Games have taken place every four years since 1930 with athletes from 72 nations competing in 19 sports over 11 days.
