Til Zinnhardt Named To Hermann Trophy Watch List

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – University of North Carolina defender Til Zinnhardt is one of 38 NCAA Division I men's soccer players named to the 2022 Hermann Trophy Watch List, as announced by United Soccer Coaches on Thursday.
The Hermann Trophy, presented annually by the Missouri Athletic Club, is the nation's highest individual honor recognizing the National Player of the Year as determined by the voting of Division I coaches who are members of United Soccer Coaches.
Zinnhardt is in his first season with the Tar Heels after playing three seasons at Tulsa where he logged over 4,000 minutes and started 44 of the 46 games in which he appeared. He was tabbed to the United Soccer Coaches All-East Region First Team and was the American Athletic Conference's Defensive Player of the Tournament in 2021 for leading the Golden Hurricane to the championship and regular season crown, also earning all-tournament honors.Â
The Konigstein, Germany native is one of four players from the Atlantic Coast Conference on the Hermann Trophy watch list. Zinnhardt was also one of 24 players across Division I to be named to United Soccer Coaches' preseason watch list for defenders.
After the fall season, 15 men's players and 15 women's players will become Hermann Trophy semifinalists on Nov. 30 following completion of Division I All-America voting. On Dec. 7, the top three players from a final round of voting will be the 2022 finalists. The winner is set to be revealed on Jan. 6, 2023, at a ceremony at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis, Mo.

North Carolina, ranked No. 24 during preseason, begins the 2022 campaign tonight against Air Force at Dorrance Field for its first of 10 regular season contests at home. Zinnhardt is one of six transfers on this year's roster, which also includes 12 freshmen and 22 returners.Â
