Volleyball Falls To Colorado State, 3-1

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Attacking and serving errors plagued the Carolina volleyball team as the Tar Heels fell to Colorado State in four sets on Friday night in the 2022 season opener. Charley Niego led the offense with a match-high 14 kills while Mabrey Shaffmaster was the second Tar Heel in double-digits with 13 kills.
In her collegiate debut, freshman Liv Mogridge led Carolina with a .538 hitting percentage and four blocks to go with seven kills. Maddy May and Karenna Wurl split time at libero, with Wurl tallying 12 digs and May tallying eight with two service aces.
Both freshman setters Anita Babic and Ella Bostic had their opportunities to run the offense, with Babic recording 21 assists to Bostic's 19.
In front of a crowd of nearly 6,000 in Moby Arena, both teams struggled at the service line, with 12 service errors from Colorado State and ten from the Tar Heels. Carolina was also outhit .324-.133 with 30 attacking errors on the night.
At the net, the Rams had 13 total blocks to Carolina's eight, with Mogridge recording the the Tar Heels' one solo block of the night.
Carolina will have two more opportunities on Saturday, taking on UC Santa Barbara and Northern Colorado in Greeley at 1 p.m. and 8 p.m., Eastern Time, respectively.
