No. 3 Women's Soccer Blanks Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Freshman Tori Dellaperuta scored in the 32nd minute and redshirt freshman goalkeeper Emmie Allen recorded her second solo shut out of the season as No. 3 North Carolina earned a 1-0 victory over Syracuse on Thursday night for its first Atlantic Coast Conference victory.
The goal was Dellaperuta's second game-winner and fourth overall, joining junior Avery Patterson and sophomore Emily Murphy as Tar Heels with four or more goals this season.
With the result, Carolina (8-2, 1-1 ACC) improved to 8-0 all-time against Syracuse (7-3, 0-2 ACC), including a 5-0 record versus the Orange in central New York.
The Tar Heels held 57 percent of the possession and outshot Syracuse by 12, 19-7, putting nine shots on target.
Allen saved five shots for the Tar Heels, who posted their sixth shutout of the season.
The Tar Heels return home Sunday, Sept. 25, to face Boston College. The match is slated for a 1 p.m. start and will be streamed on the ACC Network.
