Navy Romps To A 14-5 Win On Thursday

Chapel Hill, NC --Â The North Carolina Tar Heels held a 10 1/2 inning scrimmage on Thursday afternoon as the Navy squad took a 14-5 win over Blue at a chilly, blustery Boshamer Stadium.
Blue got on the board first in the bottom of the first when Alberto Osuna launched a mammoth solo homer over the net in left field. Navy tied the score at 1-1 in the top of the second as Eric Grintz scored on a bases-loaded walk.Â
Blue came back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third. Jackson VanDeBrake hit a rare, inside-the-park solo home run and Colby Wilkerson scored on a fielder's choice later in the inning.
Navy then pulled away with nine runs in the next three innings, keyed by a five-run fourth. Patrick Alvarez scored on a fielder's choice, Reece Holbrook drove in a run with a bunt single, Hunter Stokely hit a sacrifice fly then Eric Grintz drove in two runs with a double to left center.
Navy picked up another run in the fifth on Johnny Castagnozzi's single up the middle before Eric Grintz drilled a three-run homer to right center in the sixth for 10-3 Navy lead.
Blue scored a pair of runs in the ninth on solo home runs by Alberto Osuna and Tomas Frick's 397-foot homer. Navy scored the final runs of the day on Casey Cook's sacrifice fly to center and a 422-foot Casey Cook home run for the final 14-5 score.
Eric Grinz was 4-5 with five RBI with a 370-foot homer. Alberto Osuna was 4-5 with two RBI on 410 and 423-foot home runs. Jackson VanDeBrake was 3-5 with one RBI on his inside-the-park homer. Bryce Blaser, Patrick Alvarez, Casey Cook and Johnny Castagnozzi all had two base hits apiece.
Nine pitchers saw action on the mound: Jake Knapp, Max Carlson, Kyle Percival, Dalton Pence, Cameron Padgett, Matthew Matthijs, Matt Poston, Justin Szestowici and Alden Segui.
The Tar Heels will hold the Fall World Series with three games next week. Game I is Tuesday at 2:30 pm, Game II is Wednesday at 3:00 pm and Game III will be held on Friday at 3:00 pm. All games are open to the public and free of charge.
