Vazquez Sweeps Diving Events In Tri-Meet

RALEIGH, N.C. – UNC junior Aranza Vazquez completed her meet sweep of the women's diving competition with a victory on the 1-meter springboard Saturday on day two of the Tar Heels' tri-meet with NC State and Virginia at the Casey Aquatic Center.
Vazquez posted a score of 309.85 for her second triumph on the 1-meter board in four meets this season. She claimed first place in the 3-meter competition on Friday with a UNC record score of 409.60.
Alex Hart and Anton Down-Jenkins placed second and third, respectively, in the men's 1-meter diving competition behind NC State's Bayne Bennett who's scored was 0.25 points higher than Hart's, 368.70-368.45.
Seniors Ellie VanNote and Grace Countie each posted NCAA 'B' qualifying marks for the Tar Heels. VanNote registered her qualifying time in the women's 100-yard butterfly (53.41) and Countie in the women's 100-yard backstroke (53.89).
Freshman Lily Reader posted her best time of the season in the women's 1000-yard freestyle (10:11.56) as did senior Caroline Cooper in the women's 100-fly (55.79) and freshman Jake Guenther in the men's 100-yard breaststroke (57.67).
The Tar Heels return to action Friday, Jan. 27, against Duke in their final home meet of the season. The meet is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Koury Natatorium.
