Women's Tennis Wins On The Road At Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. - No. 2 Carolina earned a 6-1 road victory over the Auburn Tigers at the City of Auburn/Auburn University Yarbrough Tennis Center.

The No. 1 Doubles pair of Fiona Crawley and Carson Tanguilig rolled 6-0 over Adeline Flach/Angella Okutoyi to get things rolling for the Tar Heels. The tandem of Reilly Tran and Abbey Forbes clinched the doubles point for the Tar Heels with a 6-1 win over Kaitlyn Carnicella/DJ Bennet.

The Heels struck first in the singles matches with Reese Brantmeier picking up the first win, and the second team point of the match with a 6-4, 6-3 defeat of No. 78 ranked DJ Bennett. No. 58 Elizabeth Scotty got in on the action, taking down Angella Okutoyi 6-3, 6-3 for team point No. 3. No. 8 Carson Tanguilig clinched the match for the Tar heels with a defeat of No. 71 Ariana Ansari 6-3, 7-6 (8-6).

No. 1 Fiona Crawley (UNC) needed a third set to take down No. 43 Anastasia Arseneault. The Texas native won 7-5, 1-6, 6-2, to capture the 5th team point. No. 48 Reilly Tran needed the third set after winning 6-4, dropping the second set 3-6 and then defeated Adeline Flach 6-2 to take the point. After splitting the first two sets 7-6 (7-2), 6-7 (5-7), both of which went to tiebreaks, No. 5 Abby Forbes and Kaitlyn Carnicella needed a third set tiebreak with Carnicella winning 8-10.

The Heels return to the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center on the UNC Campus to host the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. Carolina will face Maryland on Friday, Jan. 27 at 1 p.m. with Utah facing Charlotte at 4 p.m. The winners of Friday's matches will then faceoff in the ITA Kick-Off Championship Match on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 3:30 p.m. with the Consolation Match taking place at 6:30 p.m.

The winning team will advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships at the Nordstrom Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Washington Feb. 10-13 in Seattle, Wash.
