Heels Hold First Scrimmage Of The Spring

Chapel Hill, NC -- The North Carolina Tar Heels held their first scrimmage of the Spring on Friday afternoon as the Navy squad took a 4-3 win over Blue in a six-inning scrimmage at Boshamer Stadium.
Blue got on the board first as Vance Honeycutt led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run to left. Navy promptly tied the score at 1-1 in the top of the second on Mac Horvath's run-scoring double to left. Blue regained the lead on a Casey Cook bases-loaded walk to go up 2-1 in the bottom of the second.
Hunter Stokely put Navy ahead 4-2 with his three-run homer to right center in the top of the fourth. Dylan King scored from third on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth for the final 4-3 score.
Three players had multiple base hits. Honeycutt was 2-2 with a double, home run and a walk. Jackson VanDeBrake was 2-2 with a double and a walk. Austin Hawke was 2-3 with a pair of singles. Hunter Stokley added a three-run homer while Mac Horvath added a double.
Four Tar Heels saw action on the mound. Max Carlson and Dalton Pence were the two starters, while Matthew Matthijs and Ben Peterson threw in relief. Carlson gave up one run in 3.0 innings while striking out two with two walks. Matthijs gave up one run in 3.0 innings of work.
The Tar Heels will hold their next closed scrimmage on Saturday afternoon.
