Women's Tennis Defeats Maryland, 4-0

Chapel Hill - No. 2 Carolina earned a 4-0 victory over the Maryland Terrapins at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center in the first round of the ITA Kickoff Weekend.

The Tar Heels took the first match of the doubles point with the pairing of No. 1 Fiona Crawley and Carson Tanguilig over Marta Perez Mur and Minorka Miranda of Maryland 6-4. The Heels claimed the doubles point with Abby Forbes and Reilly Tran getting the 6-4 win over Selma Cadar and Mary Brumfield of Maryland.

No. 48 Reilly Tran got the Heels started in singles, defeating Mary Brumfield 6-1, 6-0 on court six to take the 2-0 lead over Maryland. No. 1 Fiona Crawley (UNC) defeated  Selma Cadar 6-1, 6-1. This was win 100 in her career for Crawley.

No. 58 Elizabeth Scotty clinched the match for the Tar Heels def. Hannah McColgan 6-2, 6-3 .
The victory was the 69th consecutive at home for the Tar Heels, a record that started in March of 2018.

The Tar Heels will face the winner of the Utah vs Charlotte match ITA Kick-Off Championship Match on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 3:30 p.m. with the Consolation Match taking place at 6:30 p.m.

The winning team will advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships at the Nordstrom Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Washington Feb. 10-13 in Seattle, Wash.
