Heels Wrap Up First Week Of Scrimmages

Chapel Hill, NC --Â The North Carolina Tar Heels concluded their first weekend of scrimmages on Sunday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium as the Blue and Navy squads played to a 5-5 tie in a seven-inning scrimmage.
Colby Wilkerson's two-run single up the middle gave Navy a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first before an Eric Grintz sacrifice fly to right narrowed the Navy lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the inning. Navy then picked up three more runs in the top of the second. Mac Horvath's sacrifice fly to right put Navy up 3-1, then Reece Holbrook and Hunter Stokely had a pair of one-run singles to give Navy a 5-1 lead.
Blue began their comeback with a two-run fourth inning when Austin Hawke and John Long each scored on wild pitches to make it 5-3 Navy. Max Riemer scored for Blue on a double-steal in the sixth, then Casey Cook's RBI-single tied the score at 5-5 in the bottom of the seventh and final inning.
Dylan King and Reece Holbrook were the only players with multiple base hits. King was 2-4 with a pair of singles and Holbrook was 2-5 with two singles. Eric Grintz and Max Riemer each had a double for the only extra base hits for the scrimmage.
Kyle Percival and Jake Knapp were the two starters, with Will Simmons, Carson Starnes, Cameron Padgett and Justin Szestowicki throwing in relief. Padgett threw 3.0 scoreless innings and Simmons and Szestowicki each tossed 2.0 scoreless innings.
With a wet weekend coming up the next scrimmage is TBD.
