Tar Heels Hold Top Spot In ILWomen/IWLCA Division I Preseason Poll

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – University of North Carolina women's lacrosse, the defending national champion, will begin its title defense on top after being tabbed No. 1 in the ILWomen/IWLCA Division I preseason poll.
The Tar Heels received a total of 666 points – 32 more than No. 2 Maryland – and 22 top picks. No. 3 Boston College had the second-most first-place votes with three while the Terrapins collected two.Â
Carolina also held the number one position in the Nike/USA Lacrosse Division I Women's Preseason Top 20 poll, as announced by USA Lacrosse Magazine earlier this month. UNC finished its undefeated national championship season at No. 1 in the final ranking of all major polls last year.
The team opens the 2023 season Saturday, Feb. 11, against James Madison in Chapel Hill. The full schedule can be found here with tickets available for purchase here.
