UNC sophomore Ryleigh Heck has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday. Heck shares the offensive honor with Virginia's Taryn Tkachuk, while the Cavaliers' Adele Iocobucci was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Heck, a forward from Ocean City, N.J., had a goal and an assist in each of the Tar Heels' road wins over the weekend. On Friday at Syracuse, she scored UNC's third goal of the game, weaving through traffic then sending a shot through the legs of the Orange keeper. She then assisted Katie Dixon on the fourth goal in a 4-1 Carolina win.
On Sunday at UAlbany, Heck assisted on UNC's second goal of the game, which tied the score at 2-2 in the 35th minute of play. She then deflected in the gamewinner in the 58th minute as Carolina earned a 4-3 win over the No. 19 Great Danes.
On the season, Heck leads UNC in scoring and ranks fifth in the ACC with 20 points. She's also Carolina's assists leader with six. She ranks second on the team and eighth in the ACC in goals with seven.
The 2022 ACC Freshman of the Year, Heck was named to the Preseason All-ACC Team.
The second-ranked Tar Heels (11-2, 4-0 ACC) travel to Charlottesville Thursday to face Virginia on Friday at 4 p.m.
