How It Happened
- Attacking right from the start, UNC got on the board in the 18th minute off a set piece after Avery Patterson notched her team-leading sixth goal.
- A corner kick from Tessa Dellarose found Maycee Bell at the top of the 6-yard box, whose header fell short but into Patterson's path. Using the heel of her right foot, she whipped around her defender and sent a low shot to the far post.
- Carolina continued to produce an onslaught of shots, but Notre Dame was able to level the score in the 42nd minute.
- The home team maintained its dominance of possession throughout the second frame, firing off four shots within the first 10 minutes.
- Notre Dame had a chance at a breakaway goal with five minutes left on the clock, but a clean tackle from Savy King prevented them from capitalizing on the opportunity.
- UNC's back line limited Notre Dame, which had been averaging 18.2 shots per game, to just one shot in each half.
- Patterson now leads the team with six goals and 14 points.
- Ally Sentnor had a game-high four shots while Patterson and Maddie Dahlien both had three.
- UNC had a 10-1 edge in shots during the first half, finishing the match at 17-2.
- Carolina's defense has held 15 of its 16 opponents to 10 shots or less, seven of those to five or fewer and three to only one.
- Carolina also had nine corner kicks, including six in the opening frame, while Notre Dame had none. It was the third time UNC has kept an opponent to zero corners this year.
- Emmie Allen made one save between the posts. She and King logged a full 90 minutes.
- It proved to be a physical match with 18 combined fouls and five yellow cards issued.
