Tar Heels Wrap Up Fall At Rivanna Romp

North Carolina wrapped up its fall season Sunday with a day of racing at the Rivanna Romp in Earlysville, Va. The Tar Heels raced eights and fours over the 4,000-meter course at the Rivanna Reservoir, showing improvement over last season's results at the same event and providing motivation for the winter training that lies ahead.

"The team has done a fantastic job this fall training and holding themselves to an elevated standard," UNC coach Erin Neppel said. "We finally saw an improvement in team placement, and a big jump in relative speed from the last couple of years at this race. Our coxswains did a great job this weekend as well.

"That being said, the team conversation was while we are definitely going in the right direction, that we need to do more, and do it even better. We know it, and we're all excited to keep it going."

In the varsity 8+ race, Tar Heel boats took 11^th (UNC A), 13^th (UNC C), 18^th (UNC B) and 20^th (UNC D) in a field of 24.

In the varsity 4+ race, UNC B was the top finisher of Carolina's five boats, taking 16^th in the field of 29 in 15:36.8.

UNC's novice 8+ placed fourth in a smaller eight-boat field.

The Tar Heels now shift into winter training on land, preparing for the 2024 season, which will kick off in March.
