Men's Soccer Falls To Oregon State In NCAA Quarterfinals

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The North Carolina men's soccer team fell to Oregon State, 1-0, Saturday night in the NCAA Quarterfinal at Dorrance Field.
With the win, the Beavers advance to the 2023 NCAA College Cup, in Louisville, Ky. next weekend.
How It Happened
• Carolina produced a shot attempt each courtesy of Martin Vician and Quenzi Huerman in the opening 30 minutes of the contest.
• In the 36th minute, Oregon State's Dante Williams found the upper right corner of the goal, off a cross from Vicente Castro, taking their 1-0 edge into the halftime break.
• To open the second half, OSU's Logan Farrington forced a shot on goal, as Tar Heel goalkeeper Andrew Cordes made the stop.
• Just moments later in the 54th minute, Vician's shot attempt hit the left post.
• Less than a minute later, Ahmad Al-Qaq continued the offensive pressure for Carolina, however Oregon State's Luis Castillo made the save.
• In the 86th frame, Carolina's Huerman was issued a red card, as the Tar Heels finished the remainder of the contest with 10 players.

• The all-time series is now tied at one-all, with Saturday serving as the first matchup between the two programs since 2011.
• Saturday's quarterfinal appearance for Carolina was the 14th in program history, including the 10th in the past 16 seasons.
• The Tar Heels are now 8-4-2 all-time in the Elite Eight.
• Goalkeeper Andrew Cordes stopped four Beaver shot attempts on the night.
