Four Tar Heels Earn All-South Region Honors
December 6, 2023 | Field Hockey
Four Tar Heels have earned All-South Region honors, as announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. Sophomores Sietske Brüning and Ryleigh Heck and freshmen Charly Bruder and Sanne Hak all earned the honor, which is decided by voting of the region's NFHCA member coaches.
Bruder, Brüning and Heck were named to the 16-member first team, making them eligible for All-America consideration. Hak was picked for the 16-member second team.
Brüning, a midfielder from The Hague in the Netherlands, moved up to the first team after earning second-team honors last season. An All-Atlantic Coast Conference first-team pick, she was an anchor for the Tar Heels all season, playing both in the midfield and on the back line.
Heck, a forward from Ocean City, N.J., earned first-team honors for the second year in a row. She led the Tar Heels in scoring with 34 points on 13 goals and eight assists. She was the ACC Tournament MVP and also was named to the All-NCAA Tournament Team.
Bruder, a forward from Malvern, Pa., led the Tar Heels in goals with 15 and was voted the ACC Freshman of the Year. A second-team All-ACC pick, she was named to both the ACC and NCAA All-Tournament Teams.
Hak, a midfielder from Bussum, the Netherlands, started all 21 games for the Tar Heels and finished the season with five goals. She was named to the ACC All-Tournament Team.
