Was it a matter of just not making shots tonight:
"No, it was more than that. Just not being able to shoot the basketball. I didn't think we had an answer for Jordan Miller. We just didn't. He dominated us on the offensive glass, in transition, in the post, dribble drive, to the basket, and on the perimeter. We just didn't have anybody that could slow him down. Nijel Pack got hot from three. He was able to hit some threes at the latter part of the first half and beginning of the second half. It was a number of things. Our inability to get to the basket, our inability to shoot the ball from the outside. They had a number of helpside defenders in the lane so it was difficult to give the ball to Armando (Bacot). Defensively we weren't able to get the stops we needed to withstand that stretch where we weren't scoring efficiently."
On finding more effective ways to use Bacot:
"There are a number of things that we can do and that is something that I am going to look at, tweak, pivot, alter, and change. Going into a game, Armando is so dominant down low in the post, he is not just going to get an opportunity to catch the ball down there one on one and be able to go to work. We have to find other ways and other players out there on the floor. Another problem was against Miami is that you can possibly put more shooting out there but it just didn't match up with their athleticism on the defensive end. There are two parts to it. We will take a look at it this week and see if we can make some tweaks, alters, and changes before we play NC State on Sunday."
On how to build the team back up after the loss:
"They are disappointed that we didn't win. That is a normal reaction from any player or any coach. How do you respond or move forward is to get back up and go to work, compete, and to put yourself in a position to compete to the best of your ability in the next game. We weren't good enough to beat Miami tonight. It is what it is. Let's go back to work and see if we can get better this week and put ourselves in a position to play against a really good NC State team on their home floor."
Miami Head Coach Jim Larranaga
Opening statement
"Well, I told the team before the game that we have to play a great game to come in here at the Dean Dome and play against a Carolina team that has only lost one time at home and that was by one point. They are very big. Bacot is a monster inside. Their guards can shoot the ball as far out as they choose to. I thought we did a great job, we hung in there after Norchad Omier got into foul trouble in the first half. Took a one point lead to the locker room at half time and then quickly came out and took control the first ten minutes of the second half, kept it for the next five minutes. We made some mistakes that I think if we had to do it all over again, our guys would make different decisions. But, all and all, we made our free throws, we broke the press, and that's what allowed us to come away with a very hard fought road victory."
Adjusting in the second half:
"They had 26 points in the paint in the first half. We said we can't keep allowing a team that is as good as shooting twos. They were making layups on us. We had to take that away. The guys did a great job at doing that. Again, when you fall behind, oftentimes, that leads to teams looking for threes. And so, we defended well enough, even the three point shots. In the first half, I don't think they had very many. For the game, they ended up five for thirty one which is probably quite a few more than they average. They don't shoot thirty one threes very often. Based on the way we were playing and packing it in the paint, I think that made them shoot more threes."
RJ Davis
On the difference in three point shooting between Saturday and tonight.
"Like I said, I think we settled too much. I felt like there were some opportunities where we did have to drive and kick to an open guy. It kinda felt like that little hesitation that we were taking, just kinda second guessing ourselves. For the most part there were good shots. We had an advantage down in the paint which helped us have a good first half, so we just be a heavy emphasis on that for the remainder of the season."
On lack of assists:
"Lack of making shots. I felt like we just became stagnant a little bit on the offensive end. When one guy had the ball we just were kinda standing there not really moving on the weak side. Just exchanging or kinda making a play for each other, it just became too stagnant. Plus on top of that when we did drive, we didn't really make the shots. When we did drive and kick it we didn't make the shots."
Caleb Love
On North Carolina's performance:
"We just gotta knock our shots down. We got great looks, it just didn't fall tonight. We could've been, you know, been better on defense for sure. Our transition defense, and you know, but like I said on the offensive end we got great looks, and it just didn't fall tonight."
On the team's attitude during this stretch:
"It's tough, but we're playing for something bigger. And, hanging our heads would not help anything right now. So we just gotta step up and own what we did and what we didn't do on the court. And come back at practice and get better at what we need to get better at and focus on the next game that we have."
On the team's offensive flow:
"I feel like in the first half we were getting a lot of good drives. Good, you know, just good penetration and kick outs and it was flowing as far as getting to the paint and getting layups and easy buckets in there. They just started sagging in because we weren't getting to the basket easily. Like I said, we didn't hit shots, and that's what it was."
Armando Bacot
On the team's overall performance:
"That's a good team, they beat us because they did a good job of not allowing us to get inside and get the ball inside. And, we didn't really hit shots. I thought the guards played great, and Leaky, but we need other guys to step up."
On the team's second-half efforts:
"I mean second half, we came out flat. Didn't really hit shots. I mean, I thought we played solid defense for the most part. They're a great offensive team, we cut Long off and I thought Miller and Pack they obviously had a big game. I think overall we played solid defensively but when you struggle like that on the offensive end especially against a team like that you've got no chance to win."
On the possibility of missing the NCAA Tournament:
"I'm stressed the heck out. I want to get back to the NCAA tournament. That's all of our goals. This never would have crossed my mind, but I'm 100% worried."
On the team discussing the NCAA Tournament:
"We all know. Everybody in the building knows what's at stake."
On the break between games:
"No, that's worse. That's just a nasty feeling for the next five or six days. I want to play tomorrow."
