Tar Heels Win Fourth Straight ITA National Championship

Seattle, Wash. – The Tar Heels are ITA National Champs for the 4th consecutive year!
No. 2 Carolina earned a 4-0 victory over No. 3 Georgia in the championship match of the 2023 ITA Division I National Women's Team Indoor Championships to claim the 4th straight ITA Indoor National Championship. This marks the seventh ITA National Championship for UNC. The Tar Heels have won five titles in the last six years and seven in the last 10 years.
Doubles got started as the Georgia paring of Kowalski/ Reasco defeating No. 1 Fiona Crawley/Carson Tanguilig 6-4. The Tar Heels tied things up as Reilly Tran/Abbey Forbes defeated Hertel/Lopata 6-4. It all came down to 1-Doubles as it needed a tiebreak for No. 32 Reese Brantmeier/Elizabeth Scotty defeating Grant/ Nirundorn 7-6 (8-6) to clinch the doubles point and give the Tar Heels the 1-0 lead in the match.
No. 18 Anika Yarlagadda got singles started taking down Meg Kowalski 6-1, 6-2 to claim the 2-0 lead for the Tar Heels.
On court 3 it was No. 9 Carson Tanguilig defeating No. 39 Mell Reasco of UGA 7-5, 6-0.
The clinching point came on court 4 as No. 12 Abby defeated Anna Hertel (Georgia) 6-4, 6-1.
North Carolina has won five titles in the last six years and seven in the last 10 years.

The Tar Heels return to the hardcourt entering ACC play on Friday, Feb. 24 traveling to Charlottesville, Va. to take on Virginia at 4 P.M. and following that match, Carolina will make the short trek to Blacksburg, Va. for the 11 am Sunday, Feb. 26th match vs. Virginia Tech. The Heels return to the confines of the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center on March 3rd vs Louisville.
