USC Downs Men's Tennis, 4-1, In ITA Indoor First Round

CHICAGO, ILL.–Sixth-ranked Southern California defeated the No. 12 North Carolina men's tennis team, 4-1, on Friday afternoon in the opening round of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Team Indoor Championship at the XS Tennis Village.
The Tar Heels won the doubles point before the Trojans swept four singles wins to win the match. Tenth-seeded Carolina will play No. 15 seed Florida in the consolation bracket on Saturday. USC, seeded seventh, advances and will play No. 2 seed Kentucky in the semifinals on Saturday.
The afternoon started well for UNC with doubles play. Casey Kania and Ryan Seggerman won their match at No. 1 doubles over USC's Stefan Dostanic and Bradley Frye in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (1). Brian Cernoch and Benjamin Kittay clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win at No. 2.
The Trojans swept four singles matches to clinch the team victory. Dostanic beat Cernoch at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-4. Peter Makk beat Seggerman, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 2, and Wojciech Marek beat Will Jansen in straight sets at No. 3, 6-1, 6-4. USC's Ryan Colby beat Chris Li at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-4.
