Baseball A Consensus Top 20 Team To Start The Season

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of North Carolina is ranked as a preseason Top 20 team by every major national media poll following the release of the USA Today baseball coaches poll Thursday where the Diamond Heels checked in a No. 12.
With the announcement, five of the six major national media rankings have the Diamond Heels as a Top 13 team. UNC's No. 11 ranking from Collegiate Baseball marks its highest preseason ranking since Baseball America tabbed it No. 5 to start the 2019 season.
North Carolina is also ranked No. 12 by DI Baseball, No. 13 by NCBWA and Perfect Game, and No. 17 by Baseball America.
UNC is one of seven ACC teams ranked in the Top 25 of the coaches' poll. Wake Forest lauded the highest ranking inside the conference at No. 10 followed by Louisville at No. 11. Other ACC teams ranked included: Virginia Tech (No. 16), Miami (No. 18), Virginia (No. 20) and NC State (No. 22).
The Diamond Heels have 15 games scheduled against teams ranked in the preseason coaches' poll.
North Carolina returns 17 letterman, including 13 position players, from last year's 42-22 team that won the ACC Championship and advanced to the NCAA Super Regional round, and welcomes 19 newcomers into the program – highlighted by the addition of 12 pitchers.
UNC opens the 2023 season against Seton Hall on Feb. 17 at Boshamer Stadium.
