Navy Takes A Comeback Win On Friday

Chapel Hill, NC --Â The Navy squad rallied from a 5-2 deficit after six innings with six runs in the last two innings to take a 7-5 win over Blue in a 7 1/2-inning scrimmage on Friday afternoon at a sunny but chilly Boshamer Stadium.
Hunter Stokely's solo homer to center, his third home run in four scrimmages. gave Blue an early 1-0 lead. Patrick Alvarez added a solo homer of his own to left in the fourth to knot the score at 1-1.
Blue responded in the bottom of the frame with three runs on Reece Holbrook's RBI-single and Colby Wilkerson's two-RBI single up the middle. Vance Honeycutt scored for Blue on a wild pitch to put Blue up 5-1 before Navy began its comeback with a pair of three-run innings.
Alvarez scored the first run of the seventh on a fielder's choice. Jackson Rusiecki then hit a sacrifice fly to center before Jackson VanDeBrake ripped a run-scoring single to right.
Navy picked up three more runs in the top  of the eighth. Alvarez drove in a run on a safety squeeze with a nice bunt single. Joe Jaconski then plated a run with a line-drive single to right before brother Jesse drove him home with a triple to left.
VanDeBrake and Eric Grintz were the only players with multiple base hits. VanDeBrake was 2-3 with one RBI and Grintz was 2-4 with a double. The other extra base hits were the home runs by Stokely and Alvarez and Jesse Jaconski's triple
Dalton Pence and Max Carlson were the two starters, with seven pitchers throwing in relief: Justin Szestowicki, Will Simmons, Ben Peterson, Carson Starnes, Nelson Berkwich, Matt Poston and Matthew Matthijs.
Pence gave up one run in 3.0 innings while striking out three. Carlson gave up two runs in 3.0 inning while fanning four. Justin Szestowicki threw 2.0 scoreless innings, with Matt Poston hurling 1.2 scoreless inning while striking out two.
The Tar Heels will hold their next scrimmage on Saturday.
